I'm just curious. I've always wanted to purchase a shortbow, but I know there are firearm laws.

Is it okay to leave your (archery) bow strung up?

Bow is not a firearm. But in Sacramento I doubt you have rights to have even toy bow, or toy knife. All kitchen knifes should be locked and unloaded from the blades.
So my best bet would be… MOVE from Soviet republic of Cali to have a bow or firearm. I guess the worst then that could be only Massachusetts or New Jersey. May be New York too. Other 46 states would be better then Cali in term of bow or firearm laws.

Bows are just as dangerous as firearms, therefore you cannot use them in city limits. There should be local archery clubs in your area. I live here in the central valley and there are quite a few.

Head over to Discovery Park, they have an archery program over there, a very good one at that. As for laws, you don’t need any permits to buy a bow, there’s nothing regulating that. But within city limits you need to shoot in designated archery ranges. Before you buy, I do suggest you visit the range at Discovery Park, they’ll have equipment for you to try and use until you decide which type of bow you like the most.
