How do you get windows replaced on a bow window?

Matthew F asked:

Do you have to replace the entire casing and everything? I have talked to 5 different window companies and they want to take the glass and framing out, use the same window frame but put in regular windows that slide up and down. Currently there are two stationary windows and 2 crank out windows. I think it would look goofy if they do it that way.

Do I have to keep my violin in the case when i'm not using it?

they make bow windows with double hungs so its not goofy;however a new bow window would cost between 1200-2000 so;you do the math and see what suits ya best form the price there giving you;in comparison to the cost of all new

A true bow window is a single window that is curved like a bow. What you have series of windows framed in a bow shape.
Replacement window companies (literally thousands of them), always push double hung windows because they are the least expensive to manufacture.
Get some prices from a good Carpentry contractor – they will not have their own brand of window they want to push on you. They will install any window of your choice. Most of the cheap vinyl replacement windows have flimsy frames, cheap hardware, but announce a lifetime warranty. The warranty is only as good as the manufacturer. Many of them come and go – then start up under a new name.
Stick with Pella,Andersen,Crestline,Peachtree,Marvin. Yes they are more money – but 5 yrs. from now they will still be in business should you have a problem.
Make sure they meet federal energy credits for tax rebate.
These 5 window companies want to slip in replacement windows which you can leave the inside trim untouched. They just remove the existing window sash – then custom order a size to fit the 4 openings.
The trouble is that narrow double hung windows (less than 24″ wide) look funky. The casement (crank out ) windows always look better on a bay or bow window except in a cape cod/ or a traditional style house.
