Brandon asked:

so i want to learn to use the bow and arrow because by far i think it is the sickest weapon ever. Alot of my favorite characters from things use bows' such as Legolas from lord of the rings or Pit from super smash bro's brawl, and from books ive read. But i do not want a nice plastic bow or something of the sort i would rather have a really cool elvish wooden bow or something that looks cooler, not just a high compound bow thats made of plastic. Where can i buy bows that are cool and look like lord of the rings bows or something of the sort.

Best bet is go take the classes ….see what works with developing your skill and I’m sure that they will know there where to not only get what you want but what you’ll be able to handle as well…..i like the ones your talking about too…i used to try and make my own when i was little.

The first thing to do is find a range in your area. Go to. Go under Club Information, and it’ll list many different ranges in the US, that is if you’re in the US. If not, look up your country’s national organization for archery, in the UK for example this would be the GNAS. They usually will have a directory of archery ranges in the country.

Once you’ve done that, talk to the people at the range, most ranges will offer instruction. Some, like our range offer instruction and equipment for free. Like anything in life, there are steps to learn things. The quickest way to become like Legolas is actually to not shoot like him. Spend the first 3 or 4 weeks shooting with sights and light bows. Once you get the anchor down and the basic form, then go ahead and remove the sight, and learn how to aim without it. it’s a very steep learning curve to shoot a barebow.

To make learning even faster, there are some drills that you need to do. Stand very close to the target, say 4 yards away, then shoot with your eyes closed. Use a light bow for this, so you can really feel what is going on with your body as you shoot. Give it about a year if you shoot often, 4 or 5 times a week, and you’d be on your way to shooting well.

As the other poster said, 3 rivers is a good source for traditional equipment.

I agree with “targetbutt”, regarding going to an archery range/store (by “store”, I DO NOT mean Cabela’s, Gander Mountain, or any of the other “Big Box” chain stores) to learn archery the right way.

Also, here are some websites where you can find “LOTR”-style bows, as well as “normal” Traditional bows:

As I am sure you can see, good quality bows do not come cheap. That last one, for the LOTR site, took a long time to find….
