Bowhunt during or before rain?
Justin asked:
Hi. The last weekend bow season is this weekend. It is forecast to rain on sunday. WIll the deer move more during the rain on sunday, or before the rain on saturday? In previous hunts I have seen more deer in the rain than before it, but this is only my second year bowhunting so I'm not sure. Thanks everyone.

If it’s a light rain they’ll still be out and moving around. If it’s a heavy rain then they’ll most likely bed down unless they are in the middle of rut.

Just wear good raingear and sit still. You might be surprised.

White tail will graze and drink in light rain. Mule deer the same. The problem is they are more alert when it rains because sound is deaden by the dampness. Scents don’t travel as well so one kind of off sets the other. Animals can sense when the weather is about to change, they will be moving if it is going to go from light to heavy or visa versa. If you don’t have rain gear, has some good wet weather archery cammo on sale right now. Heavy rain you might have to do a good stalk. If you know the area you are going to hunt at. It should be no problem.
Good Luck

Honestly I’ve seen most deer out right after the rain stops or when its at a light sprinkle, i think it has something to do with the animals feel like they need to stretch out maybe grab a snack. They’re very much like us when the rain stops we want to get out of the house. and yes they do have that sixth sense of weather so they may move around more before the rains also so say you where on a Saturday-Monday hunt you would want to go on Saturday before the rains, Sunday if its Drizzling, and Monday immediately after the rain stops
Glad to Help

Just remember if your out there, they are out there.* You have to put yourself in the right place at the right time.* Be patient, and persistent, and go get em.* Don’t ever assume that all Deer do this and that collectively. They are individual animals.*

Learn from your experience. I like to hunt in the rain also but you need to make sure you have an excellent shot. The rain could wash the blood trail away.

One thing that you have to remember when hunting in the rain is that you stand a good chance at losing the blood trail do to the rain washing the blood away. Just keep this in mind when hunting
