Trail Camera Tips

Mount your camera so it is not facing the rising or setting sun. Cameras facing the sun will have a couple of hours of washed out pictures while the sun rises or sets.

Clear the area in front of the camera of any vegetation that will move in the wind and set off the camera.

Don't forget to set the camera sensitivity for the target area. Fifteen to twenty feet in front of the camera is usually best.

Be sure the camera is mounted above the eye level of the game you're scouting. Camera flashes from above resemble lightning and will not spook the animal like eye level flashes will.

Because of the delay between sensing movement and triggering the shutter, set the camera to spot approaching game, instead of aiming the camera directly across a game trail.

When mounting a camera to a tree, be sure branch and leaf movement will not trigger the camera and that the tree itself will not sway in the wind and trigger the camera.

Always use cover scents on your boots and hands when setting or checking your cameras.

Always use a high security locking mechanism for your camera. Trail cameras are prime targets for thieves.
